Popular Technologies

Turbulent markets dictate that companies are under pressure to evolve and streamline themselves.  For European small and medium businesses, the challenge is to continue to cut costs whilst developing competitive advantage.  Technology adoption trends might suggest that many businesses recognise that rather than tighten IT spending, investment in advanced technologies may be a decisive part of their strategy to improve productivity, flexibility, security and mobility all the while reducing costs.

So how are technology solution focused resellers reacting to the market?

A recent survey by Channel Insider indicates that VAR’s will join an additional two to three vendor partner programs this year to tap into new opportunities in the resilient SMB space. As budgets for commodity type products and services such as switches and routers start to dry up, many traditional resellers are instead developing skills to differentiate themselves by delivering their customers valuable technology solutions to commercial challenges.

So in terms of technology adoption, what’s hot this year?

According to Channel Insiders Most Desired Technologies survey wireless devices are high on the list. Enhanced mobility in the workplace gives workers the freedom to roam whilst remaining connected. Used effectively mobility can reduce employee downtime, turning hours spent in airport lounges and hotel lobbies into productive time. With mobility also comes the need for security to protect you and your client’s data while working out of the office.

Virtualization may appear a buzz word in every IT chat forum right now, but this innovative solution enables businesses to reduce their number of physical servers by leveraging virtual server software instead.  Companies can cut purchase, maintenance, and power costs traditionally associated with a host of servers managing printer, mail, internet etc. and reclaim office space.
