3Com is leading the drive for increased energy efficiency throughout the network: David Law, a consultant engineer with 3Com, also serves as the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Working Group Chair.  This IEEE Working Group is currently defining an interoperable technique that allows either end of a link to dynamically change the power requirements by adapting to usage demands. It is estimated that, in the US alone, 5 TWh of power a year could be saved if RPS was universally adopted.  The IEEE is the world’s leading professional association for the advancement of technology, and defines industry standards.  Standards approval on this is targeted for March 2010.
